What’s the difference between the Dyson Airstrait™ straightener and the Dyson Airwrap™ multi-styler?
Dyson hair care machines are favourites among beauty enthusiasts and professionals alike. Both the Dyson Airstrait™ straightener and the Dyson Airwrap™ multi-styler promise to revolutionise your hair styling routine, but they cater to different needs and preferences. We compare the two machines, helping you decide which one is the right fit for you.
Wet to dry straightening with the Dyson Airstrait™
Designed for those who prefer sleek, smooth hair, the Dyson Airstrait™ straightener offers a new way to straighten hair. It dries and straightens simultaneously, taking hair from wet to a finished look.
The machine creates a naturally straight style with reduced frizz and flyaways – for a smooth and shiny finish with natural volume. Combining drying and styling means you’ll save time without compromising your style or hair health.
Dyson Airstrait™ features
No hot plates, no heat damage
The Dyson Airstrait™ uses high-pressure airflow to straighten hair as it dries. Air is precisely heated and projected evenly through the tress as you style – with no need for heat damage.¹
Directional airflow to smooth and align
Airflow is projected downwards at a 45° angle to create the tension needed to align and straighten hair for a smooth end style – with less damage and breakage.²
Intelligent heat control
Glass bead thermistors continuously measure the temperature of the airflow up to 30 times per second, regulating the heating element to prevent heat damage and protect hair’s natural shine.
Dyson Hyperdymium™ motor
A 13-blade impeller spins up to 106,000rpm, propelling 11.9 litres of air through the machine per second. This generates 3.6kPa of air pressure, powerful enough to straighten hair as it dries.
Who is it for?
The Dyson Airstrait™ is ideal for individuals who prefer a sleek, polished look and prioritise straightening their hair with precision. If you have naturally curly or wavy hair and want a machine that can provide you with consistently straight results, the Dyson Airstrait™ is worth considering.
Versatile styling and customisation with the Dyson Airwrap™
Unlike the Dyson Airstrait™, the Dyson Airwrap™ multi-styler aims to give you a wide range of styling options beyond just straightening. This all-in-one tool uses innovative technology to create curls, waves, and voluminous styles, making it a favourite among those who like to switch up their looks frequently.
Dyson Airwrap™ features
Multiple attachments
The Dyson Airwrap™ comes with a variety of magnetic attachments designed for different styling techniques and hair types. These include the 2-in-1 Coanda smoothing dryer to pre-dry and hide flyaways, barrels of various sizes for creating different types of curls, and re-engineered brushes to shape your hair with increased control.
Enhanced Coanda to style
The standout feature of the Dyson Airwrap™ is its ability to use the Coanda effect to style hair. This phenomenon harnesses a continuous flow of air to attract and wrap hair around the barrels and brushes, creating straight and curly styles without extreme heat.
Intelligent heat control
The Dyson Airwrap™ measures airflow temperature over 40 times a second, intelligently controlling the heating element to keep the temperature under 150°C. Preventing extreme heat damage.
Powered by the Dyson digital motor
A 13-blade impeller spins at up to 110,000rpm, generating 3.2kPa of air pressure. Powerful enough to produce the air pressure that creates the Coanda effect – harnessed by our attachments to curl, shape and hide flyaways.
Creates smooth, straight styles
The Dyson Airwrap™ also uses wet-to-dry styling with air and can create smooth, straight styles such as a ‘Smooth c-curl’ and a ‘Sleek side part’. Achieve these straighter looks using the Soft smoothing brush and 2-in-1 Coanda smoothing dryer.
Who is it for?
The Dyson Airwrap™ is perfect if you enjoy experimenting with different hairstyles and want a tool that offers versatility. If you like to switch between straight, curly, and wavy looks frequently, or if you simply want to add volume and texture to your hair, the Dyson Airwrap™ could be the ideal choice.
Choosing what's right for you
Ultimately, the choice between the Dyson Airstrait ™ and the Dyson Airwrap™ depends on your styling preferences and needs. If your styling routine primarily involves straightening, the Dyson Airstrait™ might be more suitable. On the other hand, if you enjoy varying your hairstyle often and want a tool that can create curls, waves, and volume, the Dyson Airwrap™ offers unmatched versatility.
Regardless of which tool you choose, investing in a Dyson hair care machine means investing in the health of your hair, minimising heat damage and maximising styling potential. Your decision should be based on your personal preferences, styling habits, and the looks you want to create.
